What is Ubersuggest and how do you use it?
Ubersuggest is one of the most popular free keyword generators available on the Internet. It pulls together all the queries from Google Suggest, along with data from Google Keyword Planner. It suggests keywords around a given topic, in a format that is easy to analyze.
Optimizing the text content you publish on the Internet has become essential if you want that content to rank well and therefore be read by users. Using relevant keywords is an unavoidable step for optimizing the organic search performance of your website, whether for the “on-site” or the “off-site” part of your SEO strategy.
But it can sometimes be difficult to find the right keywords or the right phrases to optimize your content strategy in order to improve your ranking on Google.
Tools exist to help you spot keyword opportunities, such as the online generators that are generally paid, like Moz Keyword Explorer, Ahrefs Keyword Explorer, Majestic, Semrush, or Google’s own: Google Keyword Planner. The latter is free only if you hold an AdWords account with an active campaign.
But free alternative tools exist, such as Answerthepublic or Ubersuggest, which can sometimes be more effective.

But what is a keyword generator?
It is a tool that gives you the phrases and words related to a keyword, as well as the most common searches made by users.
Finding the right keywords is essential if you want to generate traffic that is relevant to your service/product offering and to better steer your content strategy on your website. These keywords will let you perfectly optimize your content and thereby generate qualified link building.
Ubersuggest also provides other very precise information about keywords, such as their monthly search volumes, their AdWords costs (CPC), and their competition levels, so you can optimize your ranking strategy.

The platform was acquired in July 2017 by Neil Patel and Mike Kamo, one of the best marketing specialists and notably the author of the sites Kissmetrics, Crazyegg, Hellobar, and Quicksprout.com.
Born in 1985 in England, he started out working at Amazon, NBC, and HP as a marketing expert. Later recognized by the Wall Street Journal as one of the most important influencers on the web, Forbes declared him the best marketer in the world.
Many SEOs wondered whether the tool would remain free after the acquisition, and the answer is yes, since Neil Patel stated:
“My goal is to make all SEO and keyword data for free…even in a crazier way than this.”
Following this acquisition, Ubersuggest’s interface naturally changed to become more user-friendly and more intuitive.
How does Ubersuggest work?
Ubersuggest’s interface, with its clean design, is easy to use and works on the same principle as other keyword research tools.
Simply enter your keyword or your phrase in the search bar, indicate the language you are interested in for the keywords, and submit your query. Ubersuggest will then place that keyword in Google search (via the API) and return the associated results to you.

Ubersuggest’s interface was updated recently. Before this update, the tool let you choose which platform you wanted to extract keyword suggestions from: on the web, from YouTube, Google News, Google Images, or Google Shopping.

Once your keyword is entered in Ubersuggest, you can launch the search by clicking “Search” and thereby discover various data.
Keyword Overview

This is the first data visible once your keyword is entered in Ubersuggest. You can see the search volume, the SEO difficulty score (SEO difficulty), the SEA difficulty score (Paid difficulty), and the cost per click (cost per click).
A graph of the search volume by month is also available. Pretty handy for figuring out whether a keyword is seasonal.
Below this graph, you have a first overview of keyword ideas as well as an overview of the SERP associated with the keyword.
Keyword Ideas

Ubersuggest shows you a list of keywords associated with the one you entered previously. These keywords are extracted using Google Suggest and Google AdWords.
Many results appear with their CPC, their monthly search volumes, and their competition levels (the difficulty of ranking for this keyword on Google) indicated by their PD (Paid Difficulty) and SD (SEO Difficulty). The results obtained are directly related to your keyword and show suggestions for related searches made by Google users. You can sort the results by search volume, CPC, or competition level.
Ubersuggest’s interface also lets you filter these results by specifying negative keywords, which will therefore be removed from the search so that it is more relevant and the results match your needs perfectly.
You also have the option to filter the search volume, the PD, the SD, and the CPC by specifying a minimum and maximum, and also to choose to limit the search to Google AdWords or Google Suggest.
Serp analysis:

A small novelty from Ubersuggest is the ability to have a simple view of the top 100 sites ranking for your keyword. You then get an idea of your competitors, as well as an estimate of the traffic generated by their page, the number of shares on social networks, and the Domain Score. The latter is a measure between 1 and 100. The higher the number, the more authoritative the domain, and therefore the harder it will be to compete with that site.
For social shares, it is interesting to see the result. If more people share it, it means they particularly enjoyed the content. Which can be interesting for content.
You have the option to export all the results you have obtained as an Excel spreadsheet, or to copy/paste all the results.
Ubersuggest, the upcoming features:
Neil Patel announced in an article the development of new features.
Among them, a traffic analysis report that would indicate a site’s organic traffic volume.

Also under development, a report presenting the top pages of all the websites ranking in the top positions, as well as the terms associated with those pages.

Already visible in the Ubersuggest tool, but not yet available, “Content ideas.” During a keyword search, you will be able to see the most popular articles on that topic based on traffic and social shares.
An extension that includes Ubersuggest data
The “keywordseverywhere” extension is available for Chrome and Firefox. Once installed, the tool generates a key. You will receive it by email, and then you just have to click “Update Settings” and copy it into “API Key.”
This extension will let you analyze a page and get details about the keywords present on it. As in Ubersuggest, you will get the CPC, the monthly search volume, and the competition level.
As with the Ubersuggest site, you also have the option to export your results in an Excel, PDF, etc. format.
How do you use Ubersuggest?
Many SEOs use keyword suggestion tools to find new SEO niches to rank in and thereby capture relatively significant, less competitive traffic in order to monetize their sites through Amazon affiliation; the famous sites that the community calls MFA, “ made for Amazon” (thus replacing Made For AdSense).
One use you can make of Ubersuggest is therefore to find niches or article ideas by putting yourself in the shoes of the internet user – buyer. Users love to compare different products before making a purchase on competing sites or even different sites against each other: Amazon and Cdiscount, Leboncoin and Seloger, … Whatever your field of activity, your target audience inevitably compares you to your competitors.
It is therefore interesting to see what comes up in Ubersuggest when you give it comparison terms like “vs” or “site like” (or variations of these terms) to find good ideas for articles or niche sites and thereby respond to users comparing (your) products / services / site.
Optimize and work the long tail
A tool like Ubersuggest can also help you find relevant keywords from the many variations of your flagship keywords (the “top tail”) in order to position yourself in the long tail. You can search the long tail manually, by selecting related phrases of more than 3 words whose search volume and competition level are reasonable. The other solution is to go to Google Keyword Planner and create a campaign (without activating it). Once in the interface, click “Get search volume trends and data” and paste the previously exported list of words in CSV format into Ubersuggest.
If you have an active SEA campaign, the results obtained will be fairly precise. Otherwise, you will get a range that can already give you a rough idea.
All that’s left is to write, optimizing your content thanks to the keywords.
Ubersuggest’s new interface shows a clear improvement in terms of interface; it is clearer and simpler to use. It is easy to get hundreds or even thousands of relevant keyword suggestions using this tool. This comparison tool is free, fast, effective, and user-friendly, which makes it a considerable asset to help you optimize your content.
And you, what do you think of the new Ubersuggest? Don’t hesitate to get support from our SEO solution for researching keywords related to your business so that your prospects and customers can easily find you amid the hostile competition of the web jungle.
