Semji vs Profound

Profound is the most complete AI-answer measurement platform we have compared ourselves to, and on several rows below it is ahead of us. Two things it does not do: run a search practice of its own — no rank tracker, no keyword research, no organic portfolio to attribute back to — and hand you an editorial workflow you did not have to build. Semji runs SEO and GEO on one page record, and ships the brief, the editor, the score and the approval as product.

The short answer

Both platforms measure AI answers and both can publish a page. The decision is whether search is part of the picture, and whether you want the content workflow delivered or assembled.

Profound is the better fit if…
  • You need crawler-level telemetry — which AI bots fetch which pages, read from your CDN and server logs. Semji has nothing comparable.
  • Sentiment, brand-perception themes and correcting what engines get factually wrong about you are the deliverable, for comms as much as for SEO.
  • You track engines outside Semji's six — Microsoft Copilot and Grok among them — or you sell through ChatGPT Shopping and AI ad surfaces.
  • You have the engineering appetite to build workflows on a node canvas, and you want a published price you can sign up against today.
Semji is the better fit if…
  • Organic search still drives most of your traffic and you will not run a GEO tool with no SEO half.
  • You want brief, editor, Content Score, review and publish to arrive as one application rather than as nodes you wire together and maintain.
  • Your team publishes at volume and needs a calendar, draft statuses, assignments and approvals as product.
  • You want AI visibility, daily rankings and Search Console performance on the same page record.
  • Your analytics stack includes Matomo, Piwik PRO or Adobe Analytics and all of it has to connect.
  • You need the API, every tracked engine and every market included in what you buy, rather than unlocked by the top tier.

Feature by feature

Every Profound cell links to the page we read it on, with the date. Profound takes three of these rows outright and draws or leads on several more; those rows say so.

From gap to published page

Profound has every part of this: a brief node, a writing node, a real editor, a scorecard, an approval step and a wider CMS catalogue than ours. The question is not whether the parts exist — it is whether they arrive assembled.

From gap to published pageSemji compared with Profound
Detected gap becomes a content briefSemjiYes. One click from a weak prompt into Planning, or straight into the editor to fix the page that already existsProfoundPartial. Create Content Brief is a node you place on a workflow canvas, or a template you clone — not a brief you open from the gap that prompted itSource for Detected gap becomes a content brief, checked 1 August 2026
AI drafting grounded in your brand assetsSemjiYes. Brand Voice and Knowledge Base applied at generation time, on by default for every agentProfoundYes. Optimisation score inside the editorSemjiYes. Content Score moves as you write, across seven families — title tag, length, search intents, questions, related terms, incoming and outgoing linksProfoundPartial. The AEO Content Scorecard takes a URL plus a target prompt and returns a weighted grade — readability, content structure, answerability signals, machine readability. It marks a published page; it does not score the draft you are writingSource for Optimisation score inside the editor, checked 1 August 2026
Publishing to your CMSSemjiYes. WordPress including Yoast meta descriptions, Drupal, Contentful, Strapi, a custom MCP server and a send-to-CMS webhookProfoundYes. Editorial calendar, draft statuses and approvalsSemjiYes. Planning calendar, custom statuses from Draft to Published, assignment, bulk actionsProfoundPartial. No publication calendar and no custom draft-status pipeline are publishedSource for Editorial calendar, draft statuses and approvals, checked 1 August 2026

AI visibility measurement

Profound's home ground, and they are ahead of us on three of these six. Their methodology is a genuine differentiator: they capture the browser experience rather than calling the model APIs, and re-run every tracked prompt daily.

AI visibility measurementSemji compared with Profound

Search, traffic and crawlers

Profound has no SEO half. Classic search reaches it as an import or a pass-through, which is a deliberate position on their side — and the row below on crawler logs is the clearest thing they have that we do not.

Search, traffic and crawlersSemji compared with Profound
Keyword research and daily rank trackingSemjiYes. Daily positions, keyword difficulty, search intents, cannibalisation detection, branded versus non-branded splits, Competition duelsProfoundPartial. No Profound-operated rank tracker. Positions arrive as Search Console's own reported average through the GSC connector, and SERP, keyword and backlink metrics only through the DataForSEO connector wired in over MCP — a third party's data surfaced inside ProfoundSource for Keyword research and daily rank tracking, checked 1 August 2026
Organic performance on the same page recordSemjiYes. Content Score, GEO recommendations, and Search Console clicks, impressions and average position on one recordProfoundPartial. Pages centralises citation share, bot visits and benchmarks, Page Health and content scores per URL. Search Console clicks and positions are not among the fields it listsSource for Organic performance on the same page record, checked 1 August 2026
AI crawler and bot analytics from server logsSemjiNo. Not available in any formProfoundYes. Agent Analytics reads server logs instead of JavaScript trackers — Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly, AWS, Google Cloud, Netlify, Vercel, Shopify, WordPress, Adobe — benchmarks against 2 million+ pages, and carries unlimited domains on every tier including $99 StarterSource for AI crawler and bot analytics from server logs, checked 1 August 2026
Analytics connectorsSemjiYes. Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Matomo, Adobe Analytics and Piwik PROProfoundPartial. The Web Analytics category lists exactly three: Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics and Google Search Console. No Matomo and no Piwik PRO connector is published anywhere on their siteSource for Analytics connectors, checked 1 August 2026

AI agents and automation

Both ship agents, a template library and a hosted MCP server. The differences are the shape of the thing you build and who is allowed to call the API.

AI agents and automationSemji compared with Profound
Prebuilt agents that produce workSemjiYes. Content Master, GEO Expert, E-E-A-T Auditor, Content Opportunities, Top 3 Hunter, Legal Compliance, Content Localizer, CMS Publisher and more, all on Claude Sonnet 5ProfoundYes. Teams is send-only: Agents “send automated messages, like reports and alerts, directly to a Teams channels or users”Source for Agents inside Slack and Microsoft Teams, checked 1 August 2026

Enterprise readiness

The section procurement reads. Largely parity — Profound is a serious enterprise vendor — with the gap showing up in what the published tiers actually contain.

Enterprise readinessSemji compared with Profound
SOC 2 Type IISemjiYes. CertifiedProfoundYes. Their Trust Center publishes SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA; the report itself, the pentest and the data-flow diagram sit behind an access requestSource for SOC 2 Type II, checked 1 August 2026

Where the two products actually diverge

Semji and Profound both measure AI visibility. These three gaps decide who does the work, and in which tool.

Half of search is missing

Profound tracks answer engines. Rankings, keywords and organic revenue live elsewhere.

Search Console is an import and DataForSEO a pass-through over MCP, so a second tool means two topic models and no shared page record.
  1. One topic, prompt and competitor model across Google and AI answers
  2. Daily rank tracking, keyword difficulty, search intents and cannibalisation in the same product
  3. Search Console clicks, impressions and position on the page you are optimising
  4. GA4, Adobe Analytics, Matomo and Piwik PRO connected behind all of it

The workflow is already built

Documents is a real editor. Profound's canvas around it is a build your team maintains.

Semji ships brief, Content Score, review and publish as a finished application, so the person writing is an editor.
  1. Open a weak prompt, get a brief. No canvas, no nodes, no credit estimate
  2. Write against a live Content Score across seven optimisation families
  3. Route through statuses, comments and approval, then publish to your CMS

Production legal will sign off

Brand Voice and the Knowledge Base apply at generation.

Every draft carries comments, assignment and version history, and AI spend is reported per workspace and per user through the end of the contract.
  1. Brand Voice and Knowledge Base on by default for every agent
  2. Threaded comments, assignment, resolution and version history on every draft
  3. AI consumption by workspace, user and feature, projected to contract end
  4. SOC 2 Type II, SAML SSO with automated certificate rotation, audited MCP tool calls

Frequently asked questions

Can I run Semji and Profound together?

Yes, and for some teams that is the right answer for a while. Profound's crawler-log analytics and sentiment reporting have no equivalent in Semji, so a brand or comms team can keep them while marketing runs production in Semji. The overlap is prompt tracking and citation analysis, which both do well — that is usually where teams consolidate once they have seen the same prompts in both.

Does Profound replace my SEO tool?

No, and they do not claim it does. There is no Profound rank tracker, no Profound keyword database and no Profound backlink index. Google positions come in through the Search Console connector as Google's own reported average, and SERP, keyword and backlink metrics come in through the DataForSEO connector over MCP. If organic search still carries most of your traffic, Profound is a second subscription beside whatever you already run. Semji covers the content-performance half of an SEO suite natively — though teams needing a deep backlink index or a technical crawler keep a specialist for that, and Semji has no crawler either.

Which AI engines does each tool cover?

Semji tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and DeepSeek, all included, with no per-model add-on. Profound's coverage depends on the plan: Starter tracks ChatGPT only, Growth tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and the wider set — Microsoft Copilot, Grok and Google AI Mode among them — unlocks on Enterprise, as do additional languages and regions. Their engine lists differ between their pricing page and their feature pages, so confirm the exact set for the plan you would actually buy.

What does Profound do better?

Several things, and they are not small. Agent Analytics reads your server and CDN logs to show exactly which AI crawlers fetch which pages, benchmarked against millions of others — Semji has nothing comparable. It scores sentiment and brand-perception themes, FactCheck attributes each inaccurate claim an engine makes about you to the source behind it, and their Noble integration takes those sources and gets the mention corrected at the publisher. Prompt Volumes is licensed panel data on what people really ask AI, with intent classification, demographic filters and a URL-to-prompt reverse lookup; our prompt volumes are search volumes. Pages adds Lighthouse-based Page Health, a bot-readability check and IndexNow submission. They publish to Adobe Experience Manager and we do not. They track engines we do not. And they publish a price you can sign up against today, which we do not.

How does pricing compare?

Profound publishes two self-serve tiers, billed monthly: $99 for Starter and $399 for Growth. Read what those buy — Starter is ChatGPT only, 50 prompts, one seat, one language, one region and no exports; Growth is three engines, 100 prompts and three seats. The API, SSO, Projects, ChatGPT Shopping and any second language or region are Enterprise, which is quote-only, and Agent runs are metered separately in credits. Semji is quote-based because scope varies with workspaces, markets and AI usage, and because the price covers production as well as measurement. For a like-for-like number, the demo is the fastest route.
