Google Suggest is the autocomplete feature Google has offered in its search engine since 2004 (2008 in France). It shows suggestions tied to a query as you type your search.

Based on predictive search, Google Suggest (“autocomplete” in English) is a search aid that lets a user focus and refine a query in real time, and get keyword suggestions worth using in an SEO strategy. Those predictions are generated algorithmically and match how often people search a term. The most searched term appears at the top of the list, or more precisely they come from:

• What other people type, and the content of web pages

• Relevant searches made from that user’s own computer (if they are signed in and the “Web & App Activity” option is on)

• Any Google+ profiles tied to a people search

For Google, search suggestions reflect the diversity of information on the web.

Google Suggest appears both in browser toolbars (Google Toolbar) and on the Google search page.

In some cases Google Suggest predictions do not appear, because the term is not popular enough, is too new, or does not meet Google’s validation rules.

When someone types a company or a person’s name into the Google search bar, the terms Google Suggest shows can affect their e-reputation.
