What are featured snippets?

Featured snippets are short answers to questions people often ask on Google. They appear in a distinct block at the top of classic Google search results, with a link to the site in question.

Google featured snippets first appeared in Google results pages in the United States. It was only from April 2016 that this new answer format started showing up on the French and European versions. We already knew Quick Answers, introduced in 2015 to improve search, and Google featured snippets appeared in the same format.

Where does the answer come from?

The answer highlighted in a Google featured snippet comes from a page that answers the question the user submits to Google, and that stands out in its optimization and its form. Google’s algorithms detect the question a user asks, then look for pages that answer it specifically, and finally build a featured snippet from the most relevant page.

How do you create a Google featured snippet?

Officially, you cannot force your page into a featured snippet. The advice for getting there is to write a clear, simple answer that responds directly to a question people often ask on Google. To find the most asked questions, query Google and look at the Google Suggest suggestions that appear. And above all, put the content you create in context so it has real added value.
