What is SEA?
SEA: definition
SEA (Search Engine Advertising), or buying sponsored links, is an online marketing discipline that consists of renting advertising space on search-engine results pages and paying to be listed in the first positions for a given search. The main source of revenue for search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo is SEA.

Main goals of SEA
Search engine advertising is generally part of a marketing strategy aimed at sales or at building a brand image. The main goals of SEA are:
- Generate targeted traffic
The first goal of SEA is to increase, by a large amount, the traffic of visitors who match a predefined audience on a landing page, through sponsored links that sit above the other links, the organic ones (SEO).
- Increase visibility / build awareness
SEA (Search Engine Advertising) is very effective at raising the awareness and visibility of a company, a brand, or a product in a competitive market.
- Make sales
Ecommerce sites use sponsored links a great deal to capture highly qualified traffic that already expresses purchase intent from a simple search. An example of a transactional search: “buy an electric bike.” The goal of that kind of campaign on Google Ads is to increase sales with a strong return on investment, because it is targeted.
