How do you protect your e-reputation?
When e-reputation is positive and has been built with care, it has to be protected in every way you can, so it lasts. That is true for a company and for an individual. You need a real hold on your digital identity so unflattering comments cannot undo it. Several methods can help you set up that protection, depending on the level that applies to you.
Protecting a positive image matters because it is fragile online, where information moves fast. A bad buzz can travel the web in a few hours and contaminate the e-reputation you have today. If that reputation is positive, you will need an effective digital protection plan for the company. Individuals can protect an image too. The point is not to let information run ahead of you.
A digital identity that belongs to you
Your digital identity is yours. That is the first thing to remember if you want to set up real digital protection for yourself or for your company. You already have legal protection. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes a paragraph on reputation that applies to e-reputation today. Under Article 12, arbitrary interference that damages honor and reputation is condemned. Defamatory statements are forbidden, including on the web. Nobody can attack your digital identity at will, which helps protect e-reputation when you are facing attacks that are not justified.
Protecting your privacy
The same is true for individuals: privacy is also protected by law. Several distinct points follow from that. First, you are the one who guards your internet privacy: the information you share can be used in ways that will not help you. Stay firm about what is shared about you. For information used by others, the law protects you again. Nobody can use your image or your private life without your knowledge. In legal language that is an invasion of privacy, and it is firmly condemned.
